Our Approach
Go Conscious Earth is holistic in its approach to protecting the Congo Basin rainforest and its people. There are five main components to our strategy.
Secure land tenure
With local communities, we follow DRC national guidelines for establishing areas (“concessions”) legally protected from deforestation and enabling forest-dependent people to manage their own lands according to their traditional customs. Forest protections also provide a safe environment for endangered species such as Bonobos and Forest Elephants. See Legal Pathway
Support community-led forest governance
Through a participatory process we help communities learn about forest protection needs and practices, and develop plans for land management and governance.
Generate sustainable livelihoods
As an alternative to artisanal logging, we provide resources and training for incomes that don’t rely on cutting down trees, such as cacao cultivation, fish farming and bee-keeping. We also teach families how to cook on fuel-efficient stoves that use less wood.
Share best practices
So they may assist the local villagers, we train local administrative authorities in forest and animal protection practices and concession governance.
Support women and indigenous people
We encourage systems that ensure women and aboriginal people have better access to information, tools, and medications, so they are stronger, healthier, and able to make important decisions about their lives and families.
We envision a Congo Basin rainforest sustainably managed by thriving local communities supporting resilient ecosystems
