The Story behind our Original Art
“This logo came to me in a vision as I was beginning to help my village through the new nonprofit we were founding, Go Conscious Earth.
This image is inspired by the creation story I was told by my grandmothers. The story of IYANZANGUBA, which means, the Turtle.
IYANZANGUBA, the Turtle, is the Mother of all Creation. She gave birth to all living creatures, carrying the earth, the land, on her back just as all mothers carry their children on their bodies. IYANZANGUBA is a good Mother, always giving her love and care for all.
My mother, Nsaba Koko’s final request to me was to protect our ancestral lands, the trees, nature, and wildlife. Her memory and continued inspiration is present in this image, as well as my determination to always do my best to protect and preserve the stories and the culture of my people. Koko loved the forest and the animals of our home, just like IYANZANGUBA loves the whole earth.”
